Why I’m Running
Maple Ridge is home, and I care deeply about the community, the quality of life people have built here and what Maple Ridge will become as it continues to grow.
I feel strongly that families, and especially their children, have the same opportunities I had when I moved here more than 40 years ago, the opportunity to build a good life, grow and prosper.
These are difficult and expensive times for many people. My focus is on the things local government can control: careful spending and value for taxpayers, strong core services, public safety, the infrastructure and recreation a growing community needs, and open and accountable decision-making.
I had considered a run for Mayor but my family has faced significant health challenges, and they must come first. Serving on Council allows me to give back to the community I love while keeping my commitments to my family.
When I left office four years ago, my council had laid the groundwork for infrastructure programs and put major long-term plans in place for employment, transportation, housing and recreation. Sadly, those plans have not progressed in the responsible manner I had hoped.
I believe growth needs to be planned thoughtfully — protecting what people value about Maple Ridge while making sure the community has the services, infrastructure, recreation, shopping and employment opportunities it needs for the future. Neighbourhoods and your downtown core should be clean, safe and welcoming, and residents should have a genuine voice in shaping the community they call home.
I know the community and I understand the work. I’m not returning to City Hall to start over, I’m asking for an opportunity to finish what I started.
After 35 years in local business, decades of community involvement and three terms in elected office, I believe I still have something to contribute and I’d be honoured to serve again.

Your neighbourhood and your city should be clean, safe and welcoming. I’ve helped restore safety and order before. I’ll work to make our streets, parks and neighbourhoods safe once again, while advocating for people to get the help they need.
Your tax dollars should work as hard as you do. Your hard-earned money doesn’t go as far as it used to. I’ll make sure the dollars you send to City Hall do, with careful spending focused on our needs, value and results.
Our city is growing, but you should have a say in how we do that. I’ll focus on recreation, shopping, jobs and the services our community needs, while ensuring what we build is well planned and within a budget you can support.
Your ideas should help shape our future. Listening means more than asking for feedback. I’ll involve residents early, when your ideas can still help build the plan, and make sure you know how and why decisions were made.
A Record of Getting Things Done
- Kept taxes stable and predictable while managing COVID, extraordinary public-safety pressures and major capital investments.
- Protected long-term taxpayers from disproportionate increases by reducing the business-to-residential tax ratio from 4.25 to 3.6 over four years, moving Maple Ridge closer to the regional average.
- Built, staffed and opened Fire Hall No. 4 expanding fire protection in rapidly growing Albion and Central Maple Ridge.
- Completed the Fire Master Plan including future planning for a Silver Valley fire hall.
- Purchased and installed the City’s first earthquake early-warning system a $450,000 investment that was fully grant-funded.
- Delivered the Albion Community Centre and completed major upgrades to the Albion Fairgrounds, including a new multi-purpose field.
- Invested approximately $30 million in parks and recreation including the Leisure Centre rebuild, Telosky fields, Firefighters park, McIlDoon Bike Skills Park and other community amenities.
- Bought the land for a future Port Haney waterfront park connecting downtown to Kanaka Regional park, giving the public waterfront access for future generations.
- As joint owners with Pitt Meadows, we completely transformed YPK airport into a serious regional economic asset — secured more than $70 million in investment, with approximately another $120 million in development coming, without any taxpayer funding.
- Led the closure of the controversial St. Anne homeless camp and challenged the downloading of provincial housing, health, addiction and homelessness responsibilities onto local taxpayers. Cleaned up the site, built and opened Beckett Park in its place.
- Created a new public-safety model the CSSI, Community Safety Officers, integrated teams, youth intervention and a three-tier response to crime and complex social issues, with publicly reported results.
- Advanced a broader housing continuum — treatment and recovery, seniors, people with disabilities, lower-income — secured $200 million in provincial housing commitments.
- Advanced major transportation priorities including a Provincial commitment to four-lane the congested north end of the Golden Ears Bridge, TransLink approval of BRT rapid bus & transit corridor connecting Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.
- Planned for jobs and a stronger commercial tax base planned for major employment lands, including completing the Yennadon Lands, approval of Abernethy corridor extension through 232nd St to the future 256 industrial expansion, along with 2500 acres in Thornhill of non ALR lands (10% tax base swing), all to create jobs closer to home, providing property tax relief to homeowners.
- Planned infrastructure before growth advanced the long-term plans needed to guide Maple Ridge’s growth, including water, sewer, drainage, transportation, parks and recreation, fire protection, economic development, housing, community safety and infrastructure planning.
